This piece embodies my ongoing search for mechanical poetry, where movement and narrative merge into a single, elegant form. Initially an experiment, the project evolved into a full-fledged sculptural translation of human action. It is an exploration of how time, use, and physical interactions leave their mark on an object.
By meticulously analyzing footage of an 85-year-old man using a cane, I extracted and replicated his organic movements mechanically, isolating the cane from its user. The cane moves autonomously, recreating the exact gestures of a former user, exposing the delicate interplay between function and form.
The traces left behind by human actions give objects their unique character, shaping their identity over time. By translating this deeply personal motion into a mechanical form, I bridge the gap between artisanal creation and conceptual exploration, allowing the viewer to witness both the intricacy of the mechanical translation and the dialogue between movement and meaning.
